For the 5th consecutive year, Manubens Lawyers were once again in attendance in Cannes, France at MAPIC – the leading International Retail Property Market Exhibition.
It allowed us once more to rub shoulders with international like-minded professionals all under one roof over the course of two jam-packed days. Our team, headed by senior partners Carlos Alonso and Eva Pich, were on hand to advise and explain to senior professionals about the key business and legal challenges in Spain and how best to successfully overcome them.
MAPIC 2017 Highlights
There were a number of key points that came out of this event for us. To name but a few, they included:
- Providing clients with the opportunity to attend a private event which allowed them to network with members of our Pragma international legal network; including Goulston & Storrs from the USA, Interconsulting Studio Associato from Italy, Bishop & Sewell LLP from the UK.
- Advising a leading international retailer on its expansion plans in Catalunya and how best to overcome the permit and licensing challenge.
- Receiving positive interest in the Spanish retail market which allowed us to converse with senior executives and multi-international companies from the 80 countries attending at Mapic.
Though Spain is currently facing key domestic challenges, one thing remains certain, it continues to remain a significant destination for real estate investment. A key finding that was learnt from our time in MAPIC was that many international retailers and developers are still looking at Spain as an alternative market as opposed to the saturated European market.
